Game Play

I just left a zoom meeting with some amazing Mom Owned Business Owners where I spoke about the benefits of play - for adults and for our businesses.

I have a book's worth of info to speak on that, but one of the things that kept coming up was a request for more games!

So I thought I'd share a few of my favorites, especially if you're looking for a particular need to get filled. I will keep editing and adding to this blog post as I think of more!!!

Cooperative Game Play -

Castle Panic is my fave for families. Everyone works together, and only one person needs to know how to read, so it's great to play with folks of all ages.

Pandemic is a great game for adults who all play to beat the board together.

Involved-but-not-Monopoly-Involved

Dominion is probably my favorite game of all time. It's a deck building tabletop game, and you can play with 2-6 people. Everyone needs to read. Plan to spend about an hour per game. High, high, high replay value with a ton of expansion packs. Great for strategy lovers, or people who like to play something a lot of ways and figure out their style.

If you like Settlers of Catan or Ticket to Ride, this is probably a good bet - although it mostly only has cards, and no other game board pieces (some expansions do but not many).

Apps

Settlers of Catan has one of the best phone apps out there, and Ticket to Ride is pretty great too. So if you're a tabletop fan but can't talk others into playing with you as much as you want.

Games for Littles

HABA board games win every day. I love them all, particularly the garden game and the car racing one. They have satisfying wooden pieces, games that are easy to pick up and adapt depending on game player's developmental level. No need to read.

Games for relaxation

My go to is 2048 - an app where you combine numbers to try to double them and reach 2048 before you run out of room. I play it to fall asleep, along with Toy Blast (a sort of Candy Crush, Bejeweled color matching game).

Games for ambient sociability

Words with Friends - play asynchronously, with strangers, or with people you know.

Games I haven't attached a category to yet

Slay the Spire

This game is on Steam, and it's a deck building game with a map to follow. Definitely need to read, it's single player, you can pause the game and come back to it and it has tremendous replay value.

Dixit

Beautiful, imaginative, family togetherness. Gorgeous artwork on the cards. Good family game.

Concept

OMG this is the most underrated game ever. It's so intense and involved, I've stayed up til 3am playing, it's amazing. It's unlike any game I've ever played. It's a tabletop game where you are trying to get the other players to guess a concept -- it's like the symbols based version of Taboo. It's SO GOOD.

Chronology

This is fun tabletop game, leads to much discussion - so if fast paced turns is your thing, choose your play-mates wisely. Need to read.

Wise or Otherwise

Nothing makes my family devolve into fits of giggles like this game. If you enjoy wordplay, this is the one for you. Players need to read and write.
