Meet Roya

Therapist, Author, and Professional Mess-Maker

Hi y'all!

I'm Roya Dedeaux (rhymes with play-dough) and I'm a licensed therapist, author, grown homeschooler, and mother.

I stumbled my way into private practice by way of thinking I would run an art therapy camp, leading adults with disabilities on international trips, working in community mental health, and teaching in the rec and leisure department of our local university.

It turns out - I absolutely love working with kids, teens, and their parents - so here I am! Over a decade of private practice, 2 books, and a lot of clients later.

  • How much does therapy cost?

    A single 50 minute therapy session is $200 USD. It does not matter how many clients are present at the session. Cancellations need to be made at least 24 hours in advance or you will be charged the full session fee.

  • Do you take insurance?

    I can provide a Superbill for people who live in California. You pay upfront and then can submit your superbill to your insurance company for reimbursement.

  • How do I schedule an apointment?

    You can schedule a therapy appointment here! It is an online scheduler, so use it anytime.

  • How do I get to my appointment?

    Telehealth appointments happen at https://www.doxy.me/royadedeauxlmft unless otherwise arranged.

  • Is therapy for kids or their parents?

    I work with people of all ages! If you are unsure about who would benefit the most from a session, I suggest an intake appointment with parent(s) first. We can talk about the big picture, about the family history, and make a decision together about what would work the best. If your child is presenting with symptoms that are bringing them current discomfort, for example panic attacks or ongoing anxiety, then let’s not waste time. We can jump right in with your kiddo.

  • How often should I go to therapy?

    I think of therapy a lot like going to the dentist. Usually, something uncomfortable or painful brings you in to start. While you’re working on that, you want to come in regularly. I suggest once a week so we can build our “therapeutic rapport.” There will come a point where we realize that you are coming to therapy to report what you processed outside of our sessions! Then we’ll ease off the number of sessions until we do checkups every so often! Some people prefer having the same time every week - and I definitely suggest this. Building it into your weekly habits means you’re much more likely to attend and get real value out of it! If that doesn’t work for your life -no worries! Make an appointment using the online scheduler whenever works for you!

  • What do I do if my child refuses to go to therapy?

    If your kid or teenager refuses to go to therapy, but you think they will really benefit, don’t worry. You come instead. We’ll talk about how you can build your tool box to help them. 

  • Who should attend the first session?

    If you are looking for individual therapy - then just you.

    If you are scheduling for your child or teen - it depends.

    If there is relevant family history, or your description of the issue isn't appropriate for your child to hear, then the 1st session should be parent(s) only. 

    If they'd feel more comfortable with a parent at the first session, then by all means you should be there!

    The good news is we can also adjust mid-session if we need to!

  • What do I need to know for my first appointment?

    Follow the steps above to fill out the forms, test out the virtual office, and submit payment. Then all that is left is showing up! First sessions can often be awkward, and that’s okay. We’ll lean into it. I’ll have questions to get you started, but mostly I want to hear from you about what brought you to therapy. You don’t need to worry about having perfect answers, you don’t need to worry about telling me every single thing ever. The first session is also a chance for you to get to know me! If you have any questions, write them down ahead of time so you don’t forget in the moment!

  • Do you have in person sessions?

    I only have sessions via video chat, phone, or text. We default to video chat unless you specificy wanting something else!
